Recently, the inauguration of one of the largest storage power plants in Europe, the Nant de Drance pumped storage power plant, was celebrated. We at Statron are proud to be part of this project. At the power plant, Statron’s Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) installations were executed.

On September 9, 2022, the Nant de Drance pumped storage power plant with 900 MW capacity was inaugurated in the canton of Valais. The day will go down as a key date in the history of Nant de Drance. This is because the event marks the completion of a 14-year construction site that involved hundreds of workers, technicians and engineers from all over Europe in difficult alpine and underground environments.

Federal Councillor Simonetta Sommaruga, head of the Federal Department of Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (DETEC), and Roberto Schmidt, president of the Valais State Council and cantonal energy minister, are attending the inauguration of the pumped storage power plant. “Nant de Drance can store a lot of electricity and therefore plays a very important role in the security of supply of our country,” said the energy minister.

Statron supplied the UPS systems of the type “Modular UPS” and “S3000”. This may not seem like much in view of the impressive pictures, but the UPS systems are essential for the reliable provision of energy in the power plant.

We are happy about the inauguration and wish steady good operation.
